The Gambling Cases.

The prosecutions arising out of the recent raid on tote betting offices came before Mr Carew, S.M., to-day. Abraham Moss waß- fined LSO and costs (L 4 10s). Two of the witnesses stated that they had gone to back their opinion as the result of a conversation with Chief -Detective O'Brien. John Dalzell and R. Hoops, clerks in Moss' office, were fined L 5 and costs, Mr Carew pointing, oub that they were liable to ia fine of LIOO. Peter Grant) was fined LIOO, he having been previously convicted, the Magistrate adding that any future case him would be dealt witfi tiy imprisonment. WhelaD and Board, for Grant, were fined L 7 and costs, Thomas Barnetfc was fined LSO and costs, and William Banks, assistant to Barnett, was fined L 5 and costs. David Short, for being in Grant's office, and Thomas M'Mullan, for being in Barnett's office, without a lawful excuse, were each fined L 5 and costs. The case against Alice Fitzgerald was dismissed.
