Political Notes.

(BY TELEGRAPH.) (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, October 3. Evidently there were several uncompromising opponents of the Old-Age Pensions Bill present at the caucus of the Opposition members to-day. In addition to official information respecting the caucus, it is stated that some extreme opponents of the Bill thought that in view of what they considered its crude character the passage of the measure should be absolutely blocked until the country had expressed an opinion on it. The majority of those present did not supporG these extreme views, and were averse to anything in the shape of a stonewall, consequently ic was decided to attempt to further the Bill. Another unofficial account of the meeting of the Opposition hints at the possibility of a no-coufidense motion on the Loan Bill being contemplated. At this late stage of the session it is considered unlikely that the Opposition will indulge in the expensive luxury of a noconfidence debate. The alleged dissatisfaction said to exist among members as to the allocation of the public works votes may probably have deluded the Opposition into thinking that there is a possibility of carrying a motion against the Government. It is a general thing for members to be dissatisfied with the public works votes for their respective districts, and it is therefore difficult to take seriously a statement made that Mr Millar, and probably several others of the Government Party, intend opposing the Loan Bill unless the money is distributed more evenly among different parts of the colony.
