Alleged Gold Robberies.

BY TELEGRAPH. Auckland. October 1. Wm. O'Brien and Robert Douglas, on a charge of stealing specimens from Hie Eaponaa mine, were remanded till Fiiday. Bail was allowed—L2oo in sureties and self in L2OO each. Detective Grace stated that it bad not yet been decided whether the case should be heard at Auckland or Coromandel. The prosecution would prefer Auckland, but it was a question of expense, and Mr Barton said his clients would prefer to have the case heard in Auckland. Thetwo Ganns and Andrews appeared at the Magistrate's Court, Coromandel, this morning. Detective Herbert applied for a remand to Auckland, which was strongly opposed. Accused were remanded till Thursday. The arrest of the brothers Gunn comes as a great shock to the community, they being residents of many years standing at Coromandel, and have hitherto been regarded as men of unimpeachable character. Andrews was recently married, and was spending a holiday ac Kuaoturm with hia wife, who accompanied him back to Coromandel in pouring rain. The police authorities aro very reticent about the whole proceedings. It is understood a considerable amount of specimens have been stolen in addition to the amount specified. It is currently reported that keepiut; watch and following the supposed trails of the Royal Oak robbery led to the discovery of the present case.
