(by tblegraxh.) (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. May 21. Another innovation recommended by the Military Conference is that the officers of each battalion should be selected by the colonel in command after consultation with the Defence Department. AUCKLAND. May 20. Mr J. J. Holland, M.H.R., addressed his City of Auckland constituents last night in the St. James' Hall. The Mayor presided. Mr Holland reviewed the work of the session, and vindicated his personal action and votes. He condemned the Vancouver mail service, deprecated the action of the Premier in interfering in the last Wellington election, and thought the Government should not have decided to expend L 40.000 on the Parliamentary Buildings without an express vote of Parliament. A vote of thanks and confidence was accorded.
