TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, I read with surprise the contents of " Old Sport's " letter which appeared in your columns on Saturday night, and if the prizes are such as stated, viz., LI 2s" 6d, I cannot help endorsing his remarks about the meanness of the North Otago Pastoral Association. Another thing I should like to point out is in connection with the high jump. Who ever heard of a horse being asked to carry 13 stone in a high jumping contest. It is ridiculous ; as only a very big and powerful horse would be able to get any height with that weight, and it looks very much as if that condition were made to suit one of the Committee, as it is well known one of them generally has a horse taking part in the jumping contest, and rides about that weight. It would more than likely bar a light horse, although an extra good jumper, from taking part in it. In all the great high leaping contests of the world owners are allowed to put .what weight they like on their horses. Another thing I would like to suggest is that the Committee allow post entries for jumping, the same as the Dunedin Society. I am, etc., John Henry, Waitaki North.
