Public Notices To Travel in the REDCUFJT AND WAIHAO DISTRICTS. The Clydesdale Colt O O D L' U C K. Good Luck is ; a beautiful bay, foaled 6th .November, 1893, stands 16f hands high, with plenty of bone and the best of feather. He is "by" that celebrated horse Hard JTimes, so wel' known in" this and the Southland districts as one of the best breeding horses that ever stood in New Zealand. Hard Times, by Extinguisher, was bred by J.JB. Sutton, Esq, arryowen, out of his prize -mare Polly. Polly, out of Darling, by Prince of Wales (imported at a cost of 1500 guineas). Darling; bred by Maitland Bros, Crescent, Otago, was the first prizetaber at various shows in Otago and SouthlandPolly, as a brood mare, with foal at foot, was fi'st at the Southland £. and P. Show, and gained several other prizes. Extinguisher was bred by Mr John Russell, out of his famous mare Maggie M'Cormick. Maggie M'Cormick is out of Miss M'Cormick, by Sir William Wallace. Miss M'Cormick, imported from Australia, was Bred by that famous breeder Mr Thomas M'Cormick, 1 ean, near Ballarat, whose breed of •' lydesdales is well known in Victoria, and was specially selected for her breeding qualities. ' The correctness of that judgment has,been fully verified. .Maggie M'Cormick was second at Timaru as a yearling, and was beaten by a Young Vanquisher filly belonging to the Levels ; first at Oamaru the same year, and the: judges specially comrr ended her for the best mare or filiy ia the yard. As a two-year-old she took first prize at Timaru and second at Oamaru, and as a three-year-old was second at Christarid stood second for the Derby in Oamaru, 1879, being beaten by Annie I.aurie. Extinguisher is by that famous stallion Young Vanquisher (imported from Scotland by the late David Nesbitt); grandsire Vanquisher. Young Vanquisher's dam was by Loehfergus Champion, by Champion, better known to breeders by the name of Blair's Champion. Young Vanquisher has taken a great number of first prizes. At a two-year-old Extinguisher was first in his class and champion at Dunedin. Was also first and champion at Invereargiil, beating Just the Time o' Day, Souter Johnny, Argyle, Glasgow, Accountant, etc. Hard Times has been exhibited .on several occasions, and has been awarded four first prizes and one second—first and champion at Taieri, 1890, and first and champion at Dunedin same year. Bard Times is admitted by all unbiassed judges to be the best breeding stallion in Southland. In 1891 he also secured champion prizes at Oamaru and Waimate shows. Good Luck's dam is a splendid Clydesdale mare "by the imported horse Young Banker. Young Banker, by The Banker, took the first prize as a yearling at Johnstone >- how in 1875, and fourth prize at the Highland Society's Show in the same year. At the Glasgow Show in 1876 he stood second, and afterwards gained the first prise in his class at Dumbarton and Kilbride Shows. Young Banker has never been beaten in the Southern 'Hemisphere. Young Banker's sire (The Banker) began his premium career by taking third at the Highland Society at Edinburgh when one year old. When two, he was first at the Renfrewshire Society's Show; also first at Bisfaopton, and third at Maryhill (open to Scotland). When three years old he was third at the Glasgow Open Show; when four years old he gained the Morayshire premium of L6O; when five years old he gained the Haddington premium of 150, and the fourth prize at the Highland Society at Stirling. The Banker was sire to the first and second premiums among fillies in the two-year-old class for the county of Renfrew Agricultural Society's Shbw, 1874/ against a large entry of firstclass fillies. The one got by him, and winner of the first premium, was sold at 200 guineas. The Banker's dam was got by that famous horse Rob Roy. f-he gained premiums at Whitburn and Linlithgow. The Banker was bred by Afr Johnston, Banker, Bathgate. His sire was that famous horse Admiral, who gained the Mid-Calder premium of L6O. He was . brother to the General, who was sire to that unprecedented Clydesdale stallion Prince of Wales. Young Banker's dam is a purebred Clydesdale mare. She trained first prize at Johnstone Show for aged mares in~1873, and first in the same class at Dumbarton ; and in 1874 she gained the first prize at Dumbarton and at Johnstone for brood mares (open to all Scotland)*;. Good Lucks g dam Rosie, by Renfrew Jock. Kenfrew Jock is out of Rose, by Cowden Lad (imported), who gained six first prizes before leaving Scotland, and many fi st prizes in Victoria, Cowden Lad's sire was Old Scotchman, the property of Mr John Kerr, ol Morton ; dam, Mr Easton's (of Cowden) young prize mare Jean, by Prince Royal; grand dam, Blossom, by Ben Lomond (imported). Renfrew Jock's sire is the well-known horse Renfrew (imported), who gained two first prizes when one year old, two first when two years old, and when three years old he competed at the Renfrewshire Exhibition of Stallions, held at Paisley, against all horses, and was awarded the Duke of Hamilton's premium of 30 sovs. He gained the Champion Cup at Ballarat on the 13th Septeriiber, 1872, and has beaten every horse that has competed against him. Renfrew Jock gained first prize at Smeaton as a one-year-old, and first as a two-year-old at same place. He also took first prizes at Oamaru two consecutive years. Breeders will have no difficulty in recognising the excellence of Good Luck's pedigree, and being of such high descent cannot fail to be a great breeding horse.
