Supreme Court.
(by telegraph.) Invekcahgill, September 22. The Supreme Court sittings opened this morning before Judge Denniston. The Grand Jury threw out the bill against Leslie Aschby for administering a drug to Susannah Beck for the purpose of procuring a miscarriage. The Judge referred at some length to the case. Unless the Crown could prove that the operation was not a legitimate and honest endeavor, however unskilful. 10 save the life of the woman the jury were unjustified in finding a bill. There was evidence that the act was erroneous from a medical point of view, and under such circumstances a charge of manslaughter might be laid if the woman died, but Aschby was charged with a different crime. j John Russell Wilson pleaded guilty of bigamy, and was sentenced to to two years hard labor. William Noble, who set fire to stacks on three different farms because he had been refused accommodation, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
