(by telegraph.) (PER PRBSS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. August 24. The Government do not see their way to having the colony represented at the Brussels Exhibition. The delegates from the Wholesale Cooperative Society of Manchester, who are touring Australia, will reach Tasmania about September 12th ; thence ohey come on to New Zealand. DUNEDIN. August 24. The Criterion reef, almost within the boundary of the Borough of Arrowtowiv is about to be taken in hand by a London syndicate. Mr Murray Aston will be a candidate for the city at the general election. A six-roomed house and shed In Cargill Road, South Dunedin, was destroyed by fire this afternoon. The property was owned by Mr Wright, and was insured for LIOO in the Royal Exchange office. Carter, the occupier, had' his furniture insured for L 75 in the New Zealand Office. He estimates his loss at LIOO above the insurance. The adjoining house was insured in the New Zealand office for LIOO, and was damaged to the extent of L 25. It is understood that the Government have offered Mr H. J. Matthews, the well-known nurseryman, a postion to organise a State forest department, and that the offer has been accepted.
