The property was owned by Mr Wright, and was insured for LIOO in the Royal Exchange office. Carter, the occupier, had' his furniture insured for L 75 in the New Zealand Office. He estimates his loss at LIOO above the insurance. The adjoining house was insured in the New Zealand office for LIOO, and was damaged to the extent of L 25. It is understood that the Government have offered Mr H. J. Matthews, the well-known nurseryman, a postion to organise a State forest department, and that the offer has been accepted.
