(by telegraph.) (PER PP.ESS ASSOCIATION: ) WELLINGTON. March 14. Mr Haselden retires on a pension. Mrs Haselden lately came into a considerable legacy by the death of her brother, the late Mr Tiffen of Napier. The Monowai with the English mails of February 22nd left Frisco on March 7, two days late. The Alameda, with the Colonial matls of February 22nd, reached Frisco on March 12, due date. The acting Colonial Secretary has written to the secretary if the Wellington Racing; Club statins; that he is not prepared to consider any applications for permission to use the to talis-; tor at race meetings in the Wellington district until restriction is placed upon the Miwterton-Opaki Jockey Club. He declined to approve the programme of that club except on the condition that no totafetor was used at the meeting. It is nudetstood that in consequence of this decision the Wellington Racing Club and ; Club will withdraw their Autumn programme and as the Metropolitan club b not likely to recede from j the position taken up, the Stewards will meet on Wednesday to finally decide the question. March 14. Shannon was sentenced to 18 months' hard labor.
