A Fatal Fire.
(air i!»XJB!Gtu,Ptf.J CoßowASt>is.t» December 21. A tire broke oat last night in Stehr's hotel, and swept the street up and clown (torn ffandtey's residence to Farcy's was burnt. Thirteen places were burnt down Mrs Fernandez's, Stent's hotel and hall. Mrs Love's. Jones'. Parcell's (owned by Bawaon), Ragjr's {jeweller), Mss Swim's (dressmaker), Tfiandley's Nesbitt's, and Strong's (saddler). Two man were badly injured through jumping oat of » house. One man unknown was burnt to death and two others are missing. Many teat everything. Later. One oi the men burned to death at the fire at Stahr's hotel is said ti> bo named Campbell, from Kuaotonu. but nothing certain is known. Over 1$ places were destroyed. The only insurances that have transpired are Star and Garter Hotel (Stehrs)v L3OO in the South British office ; Mrs Edwards' stor« and stock, L7OO in the New Zealand ; Mrs Love's drapery, L.175 in the Standard ; Nesbitt's (tobacconist), MOO in the New Zealand. Two men were injured at the tire, one in jumping out of Steer's hotel They war* sent to the hospital. The fire was arrested by pulling Bridson's premises down into the street. There was no fire brigade or water supply.
