The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in. notes and bullion to be L 27,736,000, the proportion of reserves to liabilities being 62'80. Consols, 106j. Three months bills are discounted at f per cent. New South Wales 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 114j, ex interest; 31 do, 1051. Victorian 4 per cent. 106f; 31 do, 102 J. South Australian 4 per cent., 109 ; 3% do., 104 J. Queensland 4 per cent., 109; 31 do, 10l£ ; both ex interest. Tasmanian 3| per cent, 104|. Western Australian 4 per cent., 118. N.Z. 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 111; 31 per cent, ditto, 103, ex interest. N.Z. long-berried wheat, 275, ex warehouse ; market weaker. South Australian wheat, weaker, 28s 6d. Victorian wheat, weaker, 28s 6d. A cargo of South Australian wheat, per barque Dochra (January 25), has been sold at 28s. New Zealand mutton —First quality, 3jd per lb ; second quality, 2|d. Lamb —Average quality, 4|d per lb. New Zealand hemp market unchanged. Sugar—German beet is weaker, 10s ; Java, 12s. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 43s 7£d. Butter of line quality, factory made is at 72s to 78s. A few packages of choicest quality realised 80s. At Bradford the wool market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. Received June 8, at 1 a.m. London, June 7. In his confession, as published in The People, Arthur Orton tells of the meeting he had in Paris with Clutillion, Tichborne's tutor, who declined to believe his identity. Orton showed him a scar he had similar to the scar known to be on Tichborne's body, produced other proofs of recognition, but still the tutor refused to believe his story. He afterwards met Carter, who was formerly a private in the Carbineers. Carter believed his assertion that he was Tich borne, and was able to give him much information regarding the officers of the regiment. He subsequently engaged Carter as a servant. Berlin, June 7. A waterspout burst and swept the Wurtenibur district, causing a considerable amount of damage. Thirty-two people were drowned in the floods, and a number of others are missing. Constantinople, June 7. Turkey has rejected the demands of the Great Powers with regard to the reforms in Armenia in toto. The Sultan declares that the reforms are unnecessary, and denies the right of the Powers to interfere, as nothing unusual has occurred.
