(BY TELEGRAPH.) Napier, May 3. Mr George Hutchison addressed a meeting at the Theatre Royal to-night Notwithstanding the inclement weather, there was a large attendance, including many ladies. The major part of tb address was similar to that delivered elsewhere. He answered a number ol questions put to him by the Evening News, most of them being of a persond character. In answering one he declined to go into what occurred between the late Sir H. Atkinson and Sir F. Whitata some years ago, as both of the men were dead and no good object could be served by reopening the questions. He denied that he was on the stump at anyone's «• pense but his own, or that he had recently received LIOOO for two or three dap work for the Globo Assets Company. Hi contended that the reductions by «" Valuation Court of the value for rating purposes of Pomahaka sections from Li I® L2 justified all that had been said by the Opposition. Mr M'Kenzie, at Hasting had defined some of his land purchase as white elephants, saying that m"® animals were clean and white and nice. Mr Hutchison said that the white the whitewash put on by the Wnsfe Lands Commissioner, but it was era® ing off in big patches, and before M* M'Kenzie had travelled the colony his performing elephants they ffol ® be black enough. He approved tit raising of the new loan at 3 per oeMi but expressed astonishment at the cabW statement that the Hon. J. G. Ward declared that when the Land Tax collected eight months before, it was d«i he had L 3,000,000 of unpledged securiti# in London. He thought that there® 1 * be a mistake in the cable ; otherffi® 61 was discreditable to the colony that sot statements should be made to influx* the issue of the new Joan. A hearty® of thanks was passed at the close of meeting.
