Oamaru Social Reform Association.

The monthly meeting of the Executive of this association was held last evening in the Coffee-rooms, when there were present —Rev. Mr Dewdney (chairman), Rev. Canon Gould, Rev. Mr Marten, Messrs Golding, Cottrell, Penfold, R. Milligan, J. H. Milligan, Cunringham and Searle. The Rev." Mr Wright and Mr Olds were elected to fill the vacancies on the Executive caused-by the resignations of the Rev. F. Seth-Smith and Mr D. W. M. Burn. Four new members of the Association were elected. The election of a ladies' committee was proceeded with, the full list of which will be published atter the next meeting. The Secretary reported having received several copies of " White Cross " publicationsj and the same were placed in the hands of members for perusal, with the ultimate object of; circulation. It was resolved to. arrange for a course of lectures on social reform topics, the first to be given by the Rev. Canon Gould at an early date. The matter of establishing recreation rooms as, a means of lessening the evil arising from the presence of lads on the streets at night ■. was: discussed, and a sub-committee was appointed to lay something definite before the next meeting.' It was decided to forward the following resolution to the Premier:— That this Executive of the Oamaru Social Reform Association is strongly of the opinion that the age of consent should be raised to 18 years, and respectfully requests the Pre? mler to use his influence to have the law altered to that effect. ;

Several other matters were dealt with which it is undesirable, at present, to make public.
