The Recent Band Contest.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) Invercargill, December 19. At a meeting of the Band Contest Committee to-night the Oamaru Navals claimed a share, as a non-successful band, of the proceeds of the quickstep competition, on the ground that the dispute as to the selection contest money had no bearing on the quickstep event. The Dunedin Navals and the Kaikorai Bands also claimed shares of the quickstep proceeds, on the ground that the circular sent to the bands prior to the contest, and also the official programme stated that the proceeds of the quickstep competition were to be divided among the visiting bands, not among the non-successful competing bands only. The secretary admitted that the words " nonsuccessful" had been inadvertently omitted in copying. The committee decided to forward to° the bands applying a copy of the resolution passed prior to the contest stating the proceeds were to be devoted to the expenses of those bands from a distance unsuccessful in the band contest, or bands that have not received a concession of free railway passes. In connection with the major dispute as to the right of the Invercargill Garrison Band to receive first prize it was resolved that the band be written to and its attention drawn to a letter sent them in answer to theirs claiming; the LIOO prize to which no reply has been received, and that the band be asked if the committee is to assume that they have abandoned their claim to the money.
