Sunday School Gathering.

Last evening, in St. George's Ilall, fcho Church of Christ; Sunday School hold a very successful social. At 6 o'clock the scholars were regaled with a lirst-class tea. Then at half-past seven Mr A. M. Ludbrook took the chair and a lengthy and interesting programme was proceeded with. There was a crowded house, many being unable to find seats. The report of the superintendent, Mr John Hood, showed that the school was making splendid progress ; during the last few months the average attendance had more than doubled, the names on the roll now mounting up to nearly 100; there was an efficient staff of oflicers and teachers, and the most complete larninny prevailed. During the evening, under the able leadership of Mr Frith, the choir rendered a number of " Children's Hosannas " in capital style, Miss Frith accompanying on the piano and Mr Miller on the clarionet. The infant clauses also sang a couple of pieces much relished by the audience. Of the youthful elocutionists, carefully coached by Mr R. Gebbie, fcho following gave recitations : Miss Edith Sutton, A. and V. Frith, M. and A. Eccles, and Masters A. Sut l on, A. Sidey, and R. and F. Pile ; while i\fisno."j Mary and Emily Sutton, L. Sidey, L. Gebbie, C. Hurst, B. Robertson, and R. Cuuningham rendered a dialogue, "Kindness," and Masters F. Sutton, W. Blyfch, A. Kilgour, D. Jack, \ v . Cunn n<rh.'uri, together with Mr R. Gebbie, another entitled " Tale-telling," both appreciatively received. Amongst ' other items were an address by Mrs Wildsmith; pianoforte solos by the Misses Rout, Hood, and C. Hurst; a flute duet, D. Jack and E. Gebbie ; a solo,- "There's no one like mother to me," Chas. H.00d.;. a quartette, " No more tears," Misses Frith and Rout and Messrs Frith and Wildsmith. All were well rendered and evoked hearty applause. A comprehensive vote of thanks concluded a. moat happy and successful gathering."
