LABOR QUESTION.

In the Legislative Council, on the motion for adjournment, a lengthy discussion took place on the shearers' difficulty. A desire was expressed to see strike camps declared illegal gatherings. Mr Jacobs suggested that military with Gatling guns should be sent up. The Attorney-General positively declined to take such action or remain a member of any Government which did so. The motion was formally negatived. The Pastoralists* Union has declined to accede to the suggestions made through the Conciliation Board, declaring that they have no dispute with the employees; further, the acts of lawlessness committed by a section ol the shearers precluded the acceptance ot the suggestions.
(special to press association.) Received September 13, at 1.30 p.m. London. September 12. The Scotch coal owners have offered to agree to arbitration, on condition that the miners return to work immediately at the old wages.
