N.O.A. and P Association.

A meeting of the Committee of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held to-day, when Mr J. Reid (President) occupied the chair. A letter from Mr Oatway on the subject of binder twine was read, and, after discussion, during which the members expressed the opinion that a policy of freetrade would be better for all, it was resolved that representations be made te the Hon. J. M'Kenzie urging upon him to use bis influence with the Tariff Commissioners in order to induce them to take the duty off twine. A letter was received from Mr J. F. Crawford, Secretary to the Acclimatisation Society, asking the opinion of the members respecting the destruction of hawks, which were destroying chickens. Mr Gemmell gave instances of hawks destroying rabbits and small birds, showing how useful they were for this purpose, as against the loss of a few chickens, and it was resolved, on his motion, to reply that, in the opinion of the meeting, hawks were the natural enemy of tho rabbits and small birds, and that they should be protected still. It was resolved to hold the entire horso parade on the 25th September, two days before the Dunedin one. Canvassers for subscribers were appointed as follows : —Oamaru North, Messrs A. Hedley and Dawson ; Oamaru South, Mr Burbury; Pukeuri, Messrs Borrie and Burbury ; Georgetown, Moasra J. Johnston and A. Gillies; Duntroon, Messrs Stringer and J. B. Taylor ; Ngapaia, Messrs E. Menlove and G. Livingstone ; Otepopo, Messrs A Anderson and Findlayson ; Kakanui, Messrs Stuart, Holmes., and A. Thomson; Incholme, Messrs Gemmell, Chaffey, and J. C. Nicolls; Totara, Mr J. Macpherson; Hampden, Messrs T. M'Aulay and .Jas. Findlay ; Kurow, Messrs D. Sutherland and John Orr ; Hakateramea, Messrs D. Macfarlane, J. Molloy, and Jas. Meek ; Waitaki North. Mr Geo. M'Lean j Otokaike, and Otiake, Mr M. M'Kellar. Mr Jas. Reid asked what was meant in Class 3, No. 27, Hack to jump, weight of rider to be not under 11 stone. Ho wanted to know if the saddle and bridle ought not to be also reckoned. Mr Thomson held out that it should bo man, saddle, and bridle—everything tho horse carried. After discussion, Mr Thomson moved that an advertisement be inserted in tho p.s£>ors stating that the weights includo everything the horse carries. This was seconded by Mr Holmes and carried.

Mr James Reid moved, and Mr Livingstone seconded, that the weights be talfoi) before going into the ring. This was carried.
