(PEE HOTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION J Received September 8, at 8.30 a.m. Sydney, September 8. At the Bicycle Carnival to-day the 10mile amateur championship of Australia was won by 0. H. Jones, of Christchurch. Kerr, of New South Wales, was second, and was the only other one to finish. Kerr and Simpson collided in the second last lap, and the latter being hurt was unable to remount. J ones then went on, and in the last lap drew away and won easily. Time, 29min 56sec. Received September 9, at 6.15 p.m: Melbourne, September 8. M'Lean Bros., hardware merchants, of Elizabeth - street, have failed. Their liabilities are set down at L 140,000, and their assets at L 25,000. Received September 9, at 6 35 p.m. Sydney, September 8. In the 10-mile bicycle race Jones kept a leading position until entering on the ninth mile. Those in the lead were making the pace a cracker, and Kerr and Simpson colliding both fell. Royle and Jones dismounted. When going again Kerr went off at a terrible bat, and passed Jones, but the latter resolutely cut him down, and won by 20 yards. Received September 10, at 1 a.m. Sydney, September 9. Arrived—Wairarapa, from Auckland. The steamer Victoria has arrived from the New Hebrides, She brings no news of the loss of H.M.S. Ringarooma. A 2000-ton steamer, under charter to the Adelaide Steam Company, became unmanageable when crossing the Newcastle bar this morning, and went ashore at the entrance. The crew were rescued.
