County Council Conference.

(by telegraph.) Wellington, August 9. The County Council Conference made a further recommendation that the Act be amended to enable pigs to be impounded ; that during the recess the Government consider the question of adjusting the boundaries of counties; that in case of deferred payment or perpetual lease land being paid for in scrip the Government be asked to pay thirds to local bodies, as if cash were paid ; that provision be made for rating native lands on the sams basis as European; that metal for country roads be carried on Government railways at a nominal, cost; that in cases of cash purchases of lands not fronting roads constructed by the Government previous to the sale onethird of the price be dealt with as though sold under lease in perpetuity and a deposit paid for survey fees and afterwards credited for rent, one-third be handed over to the local body interested; that provision be made to compel owners to clear gorse to the full width of a road; that a clause be added to the Counties Act enabling a county to procure from municipal corporations any information they may require the same as road and town boards; that the Hospitals and Charitable Aid Act be repealed ; that county licenses ( be issued, to hawkers according to different classes. The following motions were rejected:— To consolidate loans to local bodies ; exempting counties from issuing collars and badges, under the Dog Registration Act; approving the extension of control of town dlnriota over main roads.
