A man named Hay, who had b.-r-t living in it miserable fashion afc Leichardt. near Sydney, died on the 19th ult. On the police searching his effects it was found thit Hay was worth L12,0Q0, including LiiOOO worth of New South Wales funded stock, about L3OQO worth of shares in the Bank of Australia, and a considerable sum in the Savings Bank. The whole of thi* money appears to have been left to Hay's mother, who resides in Hobart, Tasmania. About LSOOO of deceased's money came to him through the Chancery Court in England. A strange part of the atFiir is that a man so well provided should have lived in so humble, not to say miserly, circumstances. He paid 10s a week for his lodging and breakfast, and used to get 3d meals in Sydney for dinner and tea. If. perchance, he also got his breakfast away from home, he always deducted the amount when payinc bis landlady. His stock of clothing, too, was of a most meagre character.
