Wyalong Goldfield.

(Australian Star.) The new gold discoveries afc Wyalong, beyond Barmedman, promiso from all accounts to develop into a big mining field. Already so rich have been the prospects found, that the field has attracted -, within a few weeks, a population approaching 1000 people. Crushing at Temora from the prospectors' claim have given 28£oz of gold for 13tons of stone, or 2oz 4dwt per ton. From a claim held by Conway and Co the gold is so rich that it is anticipated 6oz or 7oz per ton will be obtained, and others are showing good gold. Already over 100 applications for properties are in the Mines Department, and large numbers are daily coming

in. The situation of the field is almost due west of Sydney about 300 miles, and the nearest railway station is Temora, between 40 and 50 milos away. Tho nearest town of importance is the old reefing centre of Bormedman, from which it is situated about 20 miles in a northerly direction. The small pastoral town of Marsland is 27 miles north-west, and Forbes, the nearest railway station in this directionis 70miles from.tho field. Coaches run from Temora to Barmedman, and Forbes to Marsland, but the former rout is that adopted to get to the field. By leaving Sydney by the 9 p.m. train on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Temora is reached by 9.45 the following morning, and Barmedman by 3 p.m., tho coach going on to the goldfield. the same .evening. Teams can best get out via Grogan, on the Temora road, thence past Barmedman and on. Roads are now in a good condition, but will not remain so through the winter. The water supply is limited, being now obtained from two dams on the Wyalong run. The country in -which the gold is found is timbered with mallee scrub. It is a limestone formation *with auriferous quartz in large quantities. The veins run chiefly in a northerly direction, and are easy towork. Reefs are'numerous, and all so far as prospected give'good indications. On the Malleo Bull line Neild's prospecting claim shows a reef 2ffc 6in wide down to 60ft, and showing-good free gold. From this the first crushing has gone over 2ob. The Mallee Bull reef has been traced over 100 chains, and all prospecting shows good gold. Wpst of the Mallee Bull four lines of reef have been tapped with very good prospects. The ironstone veins found in Conway's, Bolby's, Carson's, and o*-her claims to the south are narrow, but show excellent gold. South-east of the Mallee Bull line the prospectors have made a good find with an ironstone neaily sft wide, and these lines have been found to contain gold due east. Germon's line north-west; of the Mallee Bull shows very, groat pro. mise, and is looked upon as among the best, and M'Mahon and Co. have made another new rich discovery within an area of about ten square miks, while the field has been proved there is a series of reefs all showing good gold. So far the alluvial has not been struck though sinking-has gone down to a depth of 100 ft. Warden Sharpe, who has visited the field, has stated that he never saw better prospeote. Mr Slee, the Chief Engineer of Mines, is on his way to the field.
