(per united press association. ) 'veceived March 31, at 1.10 a.m.] Sydney. March 30. Sailed— Tarawera, for Wellington. The full Court to-day delivered an important decision, holding that a prisoner who had been convicted twice of the same offence should be discharged. The prisoner's first conviction had been quashed on the ground that evidence had been allowed which was inadmissable. Never* theless on the second trial he was again convicted. The Chief Justice differed from the view taken by the rest of the Court, and argued that the second conviction should hold good. The crew of the Norwegian barque Struss has arrived here. The vessel, which was of wood, was bound from Natal to Tonga to load copra. She struck on a rock at Wallace Island, hung upon it some time, and then capsized, and drifted on a sandbank and broke up. The crew were hospitably treated by the natives.
Melbourne, March 36. The further trial of the Speight and Syme action begins on Monday. The Australian N-itives' Conference has decided to support women's franchise and the fixing of a minimum rate of wages.
