The following curious event happened on the 7th of the present month id a match at Mudgee (N.S.W.) between the Commercial Travellers and Half-holiday Association:—A batsman of the latter team skied a ball right over his head, and the two batsmen hesitated but finsiliy crossed in running. Before the man from the bowler's end got home,.however, the; ball, which had been missed and .not touched by a fieldsman, rolled on to -the wicket and displaced the bails. The n>an running to the wicket went off the ground thinking he was run out, but as no one had touched the ball the called Tiim'back and gave the striker out because he had " hit the ball on to his wickfet. ■ It is Hot often a man runß 22 yards ftetween the time he strikes the ball and it hits his wicket "played out."
