The poisoner Xeill was hanged in London on November 14. Xeill, though ill. wrote constantlv. Throughout the day he was silent, irritable, and moody. The body was encased in a eoflin tilled' with quick-lime, and placed under the flagstones in the corridor. It is claimed that he had a murder record on both sides of the Atlantic, and poisoned six girls in London, three of whom were named Alice Marsh, Emma Shrivell, anil Matilda Clover.
H -ports on December 9, a month since the beginning of the great cottou lock-out in England, say that matters are no nearer settlement than at the beginning. ' C iptain Davis M'Williams, of the British ship Mosford, committed suicide by laudanum at San Francisco. He had made two previous attempts. A storm of great severity raged in California for three" days, ending on November 30. On the peninsula of San Francisco the effects were particularly disastrous. Houses were blown down in the city, large ships dragged their anchors, and many small craft were lost.
The anticipated loss of revenue consequenton the reduction of the tariff is the subject of discussion in poll ical circles. The L'cnerai impression seems to be that the Democrats will not now dare to increase the public debt, but Cleveland has ways unknown to both Republican and Democratic politicians.
