(BY telegraph.) (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION".) WELLINGTON. ! June 21. The interprovincial band contest ( is fixed for November 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. Prizes—Lloo, first; LSO, resond ; L3O, third ; L2O, fourth. There will be another section for bands who have never won a prize in the colony of L 5, and LGO will be set apart for this section. A test selection, specially composed (? arranged) by Messrs Wright and Round, of Liverpool, will be procured from England. Two children, one nine and the other twelve years of age, were convicted of breaking into a house ori Sunday, while the residents were absent, and stealing a number of sovereigns and other articles. The Bench commented on the recent revelations of juvenile depravity, and, while sending the culprits to the Industrial School, ordered the eldest one to receive a sound whipping.

In the Supreme Court, Judge Denniston, in charging the grand jury, went at length into the Oamaru rape case. Reading the depositions of the prosecutrix, he pointed out the absence of immediate complaint, and the subsequent conduct of the girl, and in conclusion, expressed surprise at any man being committed on such depositions. (Slight applause.) The grand jury threw out the bill. The criminal session was over in three hours, live out of seven prisoners pleading guilty. Only one was tried, the housemaid of an hotel for steal ing money from a bed-fellow a servant. She received three months' imprisonment. Probation was refused, as she supported a false defence by perjury. The other sentences were up to twelve months.
