Presbyterian Assembly.

(by telegraph. ) Auckland, February 15. The Presbyterian Assembly to-day resolved that the Rev. W. Gillies (Timaru) be the next moderator, and appointed Dr Elmslie deputy to the Synod of Otago and Southland. A resolution was passed approving of the present system of State education, so far as the diffusion of knowledge is concerned, but expressing regret that religious instruction is not given in the schools. A committee consisting of the Auckland Presbytery was appointed to consider a report on the desirableness of adopting a scheme for periodical changes of Ministers.
