North Island Trunk Railway.
(by telegraph. ) Wellington, February 9. Replying to a deputation this morning, Mr Seddon said that the reason tenders were not called for a section of the North Island Trunk Railway at the Wellington end was that the plans were not prepared, the public works staff having more work on hand than they could accomplish. Referring to the agitation in Auckland in connection with the route of the line, he said Parliament had voted money and defined the route, and the Government intended to adhere to what Parliament had sanctioned. He remarked that, if the Government were to allow agitation in various centres to direct their policy during the recess, there would be no end of confusion.
