A Market for Fruit.
(Sew Zealand Herald.) AH fear about finding a market for our surplus fruit, provided that it be of good quality, well grown, and carefully graded and packed for the market, might well be set at rest. As our resources in the fruit line become known, the agents of British merchants and traders are just as anxious to obtain the right to dispose of it at i satisfactory prices as arc our growers to | get rid of it for cash. Not long ago we j drew attention to the fact that Messrs ".is. White and Co., of London, had sent a representative to New Zealand to inquire about our surplus fruit, and to toake arrangements with the growers for marketing it in London and other large towns in Britain and elsewhere, and now we have Mr Walker, the representative of Messrs Edward Jacobs and Sons, fruitbrokers, Covent Garden, London. Mr >»alker has come rather late iu the season, not being aware that our season was so ear ly as it is, and he now finds that considerable fixtures have been already Made, either to ship through the Loan Mercantile Agency Company, Messrs White and Company, or other modes of disposal, but the fact that Mr Walker is now amongst us as the representative of the firm who hold daily sales in the New floral Hall, Covent Garden Market, shows that British merchants are not forus, and that if we produce an abundance of good quality, openings will be found for relieving the local market of our surplus truit. It looks as if in a few years the growers of fruit will have to concern themselves very little about where a , m;lr ket is to be found, provided the prices obtained give a satisfactory result m e grower. Mr Walker has been in asmania before corning here, and we nderstand he intends to hold a meeting Auckland, on Friday, for the purpose *> meeting the fruitgrowers, and to tell eui the advantages which the firm he can give them.
