DUNEDHN September 18. The Hon. W. J. M. Larnach was entertained to-night by a number of his late constituents, and was presented with an illuminated address, in which reference was made to his past great services to the district and colony. In reply to the hope expressed that he might at some future time represent the district, Mr Larnach indicated that he had at present no idea of contesting the Peninsula seat.

CHRISTCHURCH. September 18. At the New Zealand Cyclists' Alliance meeting to-night tho question of cash prizes in lieu of trophies was discussed at iengtli. It was finally decided to stand adiourned t-ill the forthcoming annual meeting of the Alliance to allow of all the Clubs giving full expression to their opinion.

AUCKLAND. September 18. Basil Thompson, Assistant Premier of Tonga, having declined a gift of money, for services rendered, from the Tongan Parliament, Sir J. B. Thurston, High Commissioner, has been requested to purchase a piece of plate for presentation to Mr Thompson. In the case of Lovett v. the Hospital Board, claim LIOOO damages, Drs Pliilson, Knight, King, Hooper, and Walker gave evidence for the defence, and the case closed. Counsel address the jury tomorrow. The Judge sums up on Monday. Patterson and Co., bus proprietors, take over the Auckland tramways tomorrow.

The weather is beautiful, and there is every prospect of a successful spring meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow.
