Thanks to the Chinese.
The following letter has been addressed to the Chinese who took part in tho Parnell oight hours demonstration by tho secretary to tho committee :—Wellington, 2nd June, 1891. Sun Kwong Loo, Esq., Manners-street, City—Dear Sir,— On behalf of tho S. D. Parnell Memorial Committee, I am instructed to return you their sincere thanks for your welcome voluntary aid at tho late Electric Light Carnival. I have also to respectfully request that you will convey their thanks to the Chinese residents, and especially to Young Man, for their valuable assistance. I have also to assure you that tho display of fireworks and your very handsome tableaux were most heartily appreciated by the vast number of spectators present. Your kind assistance was most opportuno and tended largely to the success of the Committee's efforts, and it was all the more gratifying seeing you were, practitieally speaking, requested to take part in a movement almost unknown to yourselves. The eight hours system, unfortunately, your race have not understood up to the present time, but from this, it may bo said, spontaneous assistance, you so generously afforded at the late Carnival, the Committee earnestly suggest your early emulation of that treasure so dear to the British workman—tho Eight Houra System. Again thanking you, I have tho honor to remain, yours obediently—-H. W. Potter, Hon. Secretary."—Wellington Post.
