Mr Buick, M. H.R. for Wairau, will second the Address-in Reply. The Arawa left tho Capo for Wellington, via Hobart, on Saturday. Mr R. C. Hamorton, Public Trust Commissioner, has received throo months' leave of absence. AUCKLAND. Juno 8. The following Auckland members of the Assembly left by tho Takapuna today Messrs Hamlin, R. Thomson, F. Thomson, Lawry, Houston, and tho Hons. Messrs Dignan and Swanson. John Mills, one of tho crew of tho schooner Maile, from the Islands, was fined LSO for smuggling 1001b of tobacco ashore. The case against Linton, a handcart man, who took it up the wharf, was dismissed 011 the ground of insufficient evidence. The tobacco is stat ed to have been recovered at Samoa from the wreck of the American warship. Thomas Melville Ford has been committed for trial 011 charges of embezzlement and forgery. The Grafton Licensing Committee issued a warning to-day that they would forfeit licenses at next quarterly sitting if Sunday trading went 011. Mr Warwick Weston, Inspector of tho New Zealand Insurance Company, has accepted the position of general manager. He has had extensive knowledge of tho Company's business in all parts of tho world, and has contributed largely to tho success of the Company. NELSON. Juno 8. 011 Saturday night Mr Boers, telegraph lineman at Tophouse, was coining to town by train. At Hope Station 110 loft tho carriage under the impression that tho train would stop a few minutes, but, seeing it move off, he ran to get in tho last carriage, when he fell between tho platform and the carriage. He received a compound fracture of the left leg, which was somewhat crushed, but ho is progressing favorably, and tho doctor is confident of saving the leg. A young man named Fred Clark had his leg broken and sustained other injuries by the unexpected falling of a treo lie was cross-cutting to bring down. This occurred at Wakapuaka 011 Sunday night. The machine shed and battery of tho Red Hill Gold Mining Company at Collingwood was destroyed by lire. Tho insurance is LISOO in tho Union. All elderly limn named Morgan, rocontly from the West Coast, who was residing with his brother at Waimea West, died suddenly 011 Saturday night.
