We understand that you have been elected with the avowed intention of granting 11 »»clock licenses tf» all so-called * well-conducted houses,' bat knowing as we do that such extension of time is in every way prejudicial to the comfort of ottr homes and the well-being of ottr children, we urge jrott to close all houses at the earliest hour allowed by taw, and in no ease to allow extension of time to those houses known to be frequented by the young. It is well known that the increased facilities for obtaining drink mean an increased amount of drunkenness, and as the effects of this vice fall moist heavily on women and children, we make this appeal to you, in whose hr&nds the power has been placed, in the h">pe that yott will greatly reduce the number of these places of temptation and thus secure the earnest thanks of many Invercargtll wives and mothers."— Southland Times.
