AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
(per united press association.; Received June S, at 9 p. m. ] Sydney, June 8. A telegram received this afternoon from Wreck Backstairs says that a quantity of wreckage, including a ship's wheel, and oars marked " Tarainung, lias been washed ashore. From this it is believed that the vessel, which was a screw steamer of 1281 tons, has foundered during the heavy gales which have prevailed off the coast during the last few days. The Taramung was commanded by John Page, with whom was associated Peterson (chief officer) and Scott (second officer). 11l the engine room were Cree (chief engiueer), M'Kenzie (second), and Robinson (third). The names of the crew are Scott, Humphries, Larson, Tapper, Cairns, feiddle, Nesh, Stevenson, Johnson, Bestock, Gillespie, M'Farland, Hume. Anderson, Pollock, and Conne. The weacher is still boisterous, and there is uo sign of its clearing up. Received June 6, at 1 a.m. Sydney, June 8. The only passenger on board the illfated steamer Taramung was a Miss Moss, who was returning to Melbourne owing to the death of lier father.
