That old domestic remeuy, wmcrmiiK, should not )ms passed over for the more mutism |)fwcn|iti')ns. A young lady patient of the writer's wt suffering from a severe consumptive cough. None of tlie usual anti-spasmodics, expectorants. etc., seemed to do any good, simply because her stomach wat too weak to bear enough laeilktne to ctfcct the purpose. Finally I suggested to her mother the use of Jxittermiib. It was adopted at once. Her first light's experience was one of comparative freedom from cough and j>ain, and a pleasant slumber for several hours. It was continued for a long time, with unvarying relief of all her previous distressing symptoms, and an almost pcrfeck frccit»ni from cough f«»r several hours after each draught of the hot Lingering at one time for weeks from all attack of congestive fever, dosed with calomel and quinine almost beyond endttrance. the writer began to desire buttermilk to drink. Tlie physician didn't '• l)«Heve in humoring the whims of patient*." a* he expressed it; besides, he contended that a .single drink of the «I>noxmiw fluid might produce death, as acids and calomel were incompatible dweller* in tlie stomach. But I was a go**l jiersuader, and my mother was a susceptible subject. Tlie buttermilk, " fresh fr»tu the churn." was ptveured and drunk. }»o evil resulted; instead came a perspiration and speedy recovery. There are |»eople. however, who cannot use buttermilk at all.
