Ministers were taken to book yesterday for nezlectlng to fulfil tbe promise made in 1838 that the Native Department and that of the Coloaial Secretary should be amalgamated. Tbe Native Minister explaiced that tbe Government had not yet seen their way to make tbe amalgamation promised. The expense tbe Native Department proper had, he added, been considerably reduced. There was, be thouzht, some possibility of a redaction in expenditure by the amalgamation of tbe Native Lands and Justice Department, and tbi3 was nosr onder consideration. It was also contemplated to transfer the purchase of native lands to tbe Linda Depart* ment.
