The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, (Limited) report* as follow*, under date of July 16th : Fat Cattle.—3C 9 were yarded, moitly ball and three parts fat cowa and ateers. A moderately fair demand waa experienced for prime, bat inferior were in lew favor. Prices ruling were from 15a to 201 per head be'ow last week's. Beat bollocks brought 1.8 10a to LlO 12s 63, two extra prime and very heavy weights brought 118 and LIS 10a respectively; medium to good, 15 15a to 17 15s; light weights, 14 5a to LB; beat cowa. Lis 15a to LS 6» ; Inferior to medium, 12 2a 64 to 15.

Fat Sheep;— 2633 were penned, nearly all crosabreda, ranging from medlnm to prime. There was a very fair demand both for trade and export, althoogh prices obtaining at the •tart showed a slight decline, bnt as the sales progressed competition improved, and towards the close equal to laat week's rates were secured. Beat crossbred wethers brought 15s 9d to 17s 91 ; medlnm, 13s to 15s 3d; light weights, 10j 3d to 12s 9d; best do ewes, 14i to 15s 6d ; inferior to medlnm and good, 9i 63 to 13j 61; merino we then, to 7s 9J. Store Cattle.—Small lots of these change hands occasionally, bnt as usual at this time of the year the business done is limited. There has bean aotne alight inquiry lately, which may eventually lead to more boaineai. Store Sheep.—Transactiocs in these are now within small compass, bat there are numerous Inquiries still for cross-bred withers by farmera and others ; crcsj-bred cwsa is lamb are »lio is quired far. Meanwhile, however, suitable lots are difficult to pick up, and when obtainable sellers demand pticts Layers hardly feel jaatifiid in giving. Wheat—There is very little alteration to note In the tone of the market. Millers, In order to keep np their stocks, are still open to purchsse any prime lines of Taicin and white velvet offering at abont eqaal to late quotations; but being pratty well stocked for the time being, they don't feet inclined to advance. The quantity of the class of wheat above referred to in agents' baads is very small, io that the limited consignments coming to hand are readily placed; and while odd lots of aecond-o aas wheat are on occasions being pfaced for local requirements, there is no demand for ahlpmest at the moment, which renders it very difficult to make clearances with any aatialaction to tho grower; bnt, with a slightly further improvement In the tone of the Home market, the hulk of the qaantity held here n->w would soon disappear. Inferior and fowls' wheat continues to have a moderate demand, hat the qaantity offering lately baiag on th 9 Increase, buyers are less disposed to operate ao freely, under the impression that their requirements can be secured at lower prices, which we think is somewhat doubtful. Quotations for prime velvet and Tuscan. 3i 41 to 3s 6d ; medium to good, 3< to 3s 2d ; good to best red wheat, 2a 101 to 3*; inferior to medium, 2a 4d to 2s 91 (ex stare, sacks weighed io, terms). Oater—The tone of the market continues very languid; only a very meagre demand exists. Shippers are ony operating on a very limited scale, and millers' demand for oatmeal having lately fallen off to a very considerable extent, the qaantity disposed of Is within a very small comcaas. & ellers are still indisposed to quit at lower prices than those quoted lately ; while buyers are not in m position to do business except at a reduction, and which has to be submitted to is order to effect aales. Several parcels are now being shipped for the .London market, which promises better than anything that caa be dose locally with this cereal in the meantime. Indeed from all appearances for a very ooosiderable time to come. Qaotationt are for beat milling. Is 3Jd to Is 4d ; best short feed Is 3sd to Is 3jd ; medium to good Is 3d to la 3jd; Inferior Is to Is 2d (ex store, sacks extra; net cash). Barley has no attest!as whatever for either local requirements or export in the mean, time, althoogh further on it is quite probable that maltsters will require additional supplies to carry them through the season, bat eves than the primeet samples only will have any demand. Quotations for best mslUng nominal, 2s 7d to 2s 3d; medlnm

2a 3d to 2a 6d; feed and milling la 6d to 2a 3d (ex store, aioks extra). Potatoes. —Tho market la bare of really prima lota, which would sell readily at from 65a to 67* 6d; while inferior and medium aorta are difficult to place at from 45a to 55s per ton. Dairy Produce.—There is no new feature of any consequence to note In the position of the market for either chetse or batter, whloh continues extremely quiet.
