THE LABOR REVOLT.

The wbarf laborers refused to proceed with the unloading of the Tekapo and Jabllee this morning in consequence of the adoption af a no* practice repugnant 'to the men, namely, the engaging of two unionists to supervise the work. Tbey view this as an attempt to introdnca the ■■eating system into wharf labor. The men say that if the owners do not wish to do (he wc rk themselves they should let it by contract to a body of men who will then ! divide the profit. The men swert that tbey are determined to resent the introdac'iou of the new system by all means at their command, and will get rid of the stevedores, and take the work direct. The owner*' action this morning wbs taken 00 their own responsibility, but tbey were assured that tbey will be supported by 1 the union. A mass meeting of the men is being held to determine their course of action. Rtcened Jisl'j 17, al 1 a m. Stdjtet, July 16. The wharf laborers assert that under the proposed now system only about half the usual number of men will bo employed, and that In other way 3 owners are attempting undercutting. At the meeting ibis afternoon It was resolved not to work under stevedores, and delegates were appointed to interview owners. Received July 17, at 0.30 p.m. Sydxet, July 17.
The Wharf Laborer?' Union has orrled a resolution to the effect that it is unlawful for any member of tbe Uniou to work with persons contracting for the diccharginz and loading of intercolonial boat;. Delegates from the Union interviewed tbe steamship owners, who replied that contracts for stevedoring were made for economical reasons, as the old system was ruinous. Special mooting of owners and laborers are to be held to-day.
