The Harbor Board to-day enflorße'd the recommendation of the engineer (Mr Marohant) that the shingle bo .allowed 'to accnmulate south of the breakwater to 1000 feet from the root before, taking,any Bteps to remove it. It ia now (on a sea bottom) 600 feet oat. The point Gxedf is 430 feet Inshore of the carve. The annual growth now la about 60 feet. 'Mr Marchant anticipates that this rata will'be mnch reduced by the stronger surf in'the deeper water. The Bjard reviewed the soale of salaries, and reducsd the engineer from L3OO to LlB5 while nooohatt'ubtlve worka were in hand. The Board, passed a resolution congratulating their solicitors, Messrs Perry and Perry, on Bnpoeeding In the Shaw-Savill case before the ; Privy Council, and thanking them for the oare shown in conducting the oaao. The difference to the Bjard between winning and losing was about L 45.000.
