WAIMATE COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the above Counoil was held on Wednesday last. There were present— Metsrs M'-aren (in the chair), Milne, Macpherson, Murphy, Hardie, Oliver, and Manchester.

Tha following correspondence was read snd considered:— From Messrs Frank Slee and R. H. Rhodes resigning their positions as members of the Council. Eeaignstlons accepted, and the Clerk authorised to hive vacancies filled by next meeting. From Messrs Duno3U and Cotterill, of Christchurch (solicitors), on behalf of Mr Allan M'lean, asking for a title to a olosed road-line through rural teotiona 19,925, 33 920, and 3792.—As the Clerk knew nothing of the matter, he was instructed to look it np and reply. From Mr K. Foster, sheep Inspector, aakiog for permi3s!on to erect a gate on rabbit fence, near Normanvale, Hakateramea, nnder sections 12 and 13 of the Public Woks Amendment £ct, 1890,—this was agreed to. From Messrs Meason ard Co, stating tbat they had made a preliminary survey of the water-:ace at Waihao, and would send in estimate by next meeting. Mr D. Maofarlane, the manager of Hakateramea Station, wrote asking tbat the traok from Te Akaterawa to Black Forest be made passable.—The Overseer was direoted to get the work done.

From the Secretary to the Timara Harbor Board re collecting the next rate.—lt was decided to agree with the suggestion of the Board, provided the Connoil had the right to fix the time for striking the rate at the same time as the county rate is struck. In connection with repairs to main roads and bridges, Councillor Murphy moved, and Councillor Macpherson reoonded, " That, in future, all repairs to ma'n roads and bridgej be charged to the general account, in accordance with section 145 of the Conntiei Act, 18S6, and that the opinion of the County's Solicitor be obtained as to whioh are the main and county roads and bridges -within the meaning of the Act. Upon the resolution being pat to the meeting, it was lost, and the matter dropped, Mr M'Pherson was anthorised to sign cheques instead of Mr Bhodes, resigned. It was agreed that Messrs Manchester, Mnrpby. and (-liver meet the overseer at the Aaibao bridge on the 9th May to see what suggestions can be made as to repairing that bridge. Tenders were opened and the following •ccapted:—Contract No. 125, metal at Otalo, J. M'Qimpiie, L 78155. Contract 126, metal at lower Waibao, J. M'Gimpsie, 169 Is 3d. Contract 127, formation and earthwork Gordon's Valley road, C. V. Clarke, L 155 12i lid.

The overseer's report wai then read and his recommendations as follows agreed to "- Teat the overseer bring up an estimate of cost of repairs required to bridges at Pareora, for consideration as next meeting.—That the overseer repair the embankments at Serpentine and other roads, and have the same sown with cocksfoot grass seed.—That the overseer take out all the old culverts and, where possible, replace tbem with fords. Accounts amounting to L 715 14] 4d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
