THE WARD-CHRISTIE CHARGES.
(by telegraph.)
(from our own correspondent). Wellington, August 26. The Ward-Hislop Committee sat again to-day, when the evldonoe of LlentoaantColonel Hume and Mr M'Donald, tho Oamaru gaoler, was taken ; but tho examination was not of muoh Importance. Lieutenant-Colonel Hume prodaoed copies of telegrams which had passed between the Colonial Seoretary and tho Prisons Department, and Mr M'Donald gave evidence as to the supposed relaxation of the prison regulations in Mr Christie's favor. I understand that the evldonoe of the latter waß to the effect that the prison surgeon at Oamara reported that Mr Christie waß not In a fit state of health for ordinary hard labor, and he was given olerloal work In making up reoords. With referenoe to Mr Christie's wearing ordinary olothes, the gaoler stated that there were no prison clothes to fit him, and he denied that he had received any instructions from any member of the Government on tho subject.
