DISTANCE JUDGING.
TO THE EDITOB, Sir,—Toar correspondent " Er Guardsman " la all at sea regarding the points raised io a paragraph which appeared in your 'Wednesday's issue. He states that after the men have given tbeir judgment of certain distances they are told the exact measurements, and points awarded as the case may be, viz-, If within 10 yards of the correct distance 2 points, or within 20 yards 1 point. "Ex Guardsman " Is evidently referring to tome place outside of New Zealand, or more correctly speaking North Otsgo, as during the five yean I was a volunteer the men were never once told the distances, nor the matter cf points ever mentioned, and I am also la a position to knew that the j game order of things prevails up to thej present time. The folly of the whole thing as It at present stands mnat be apparent to the most superficial observer. I am, etc., Skid ee.
