(BY TELEGRAPH.) WELLINGTON. . September 4. Mr M'Callam, who waa engaged by tbe Government to give instructions to those engaged in dairying industries, has been compelled, owing to ill health, to give op the undertaking. At a meeting in connection with' the proposed New Zealand Institute of Surveyors, 30 delegates from all parts of the colony were present, and the meeting was presided over by Mr J. 0. M'Kerrow, Snrveyor-General. The proposed rules, which have been drafted by a Committee appointed for the purpose, were read, and, after discussion, approved. The Society was then formally incorporated, with nearly 300 members. September 5. An inquest eras held to-day on the body of Terence Gormley, who was fouod in the harbor yesterday. A verdict of fonnd drowned was returned. A woman named Lane gave evidence to the effect that on Monday, at aboat seven in the evening, she saw a man fall over tbe embankment at the back of the Opera House, bat she could not say whether or not he fell into the water. She said she was too terrified to give an alarm. The coroner severely censored the woman for her conduct. DUNEDIN. September 4. A Chinaman named Lee Moon Sing was found hanging in a room in a store in Stafford-street this afternoon, and is supposed to have committed suicide. He was a miner, and had come from Gore on the previous day. He had been ont for a walk with hia brother 'at three o'alock, and then went to his room to have a sleep, but an hour after wards he was found hanging from the ceiling, and life was extinot. The Hauroto' took away to Melbourne to-day 16,000 bags of oats. She wentj down the Victoria Channel drawing 19 feet 6 inches. Patience Graham, a young girl of respectable parents, was charged at the Police Court to-day with theft, from the circumstances it appeared to be a case of kleptomania. The jacket which she had taken was almost sure to be recognised, yet she at once put it on. Those who had suffered were disinclined to prosecute, and the case was dismissed. GISBORNE. September 5. The jury found a verdict of guilty against J no. Baldwin for libel on three counts, and the prisoner waa sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The action against Flora Baldwin has been withdrawn. NEW PLYMOUTH. September 5. Tbe Taranaki Harbor Board, at Its meeting this morning, decided to strike a rate of Is in the £. The Hawera members protested against it, but tbe resolntion was carried.
