Weare happy to state, frankly and fully that weEave been been mnch surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Klrkpatrick's gift we were unaware that New Zealand could boast of an industry of which it has so muon leaaoa to be proud. The various sorts nf jam were tested by a number of person, who compared the samples with other brands, and the general verdlot Is that not only are Messrs Birkpatrick'a productions far and away better than any other few Zealand brand "we can obtain, but they ere superior to Fnglis* jams in »eing fre-her The nearest of the Nelson jam was that contained in tins bearing the name of a Tasmanian firm, but even in this comp>rison the Nel-on article came out a long way the beat.
