He holds that the operation of the Married Women's Property Act was not so extensive as, on a hssty perusal, might be supposed, and it was very far from placing a married woman in the same position for all purposes as a fcmmc sole. If before the Act there was legislative provision, express or implied, prohibiting a license involving serious liability to the public and State, being granted to a married woman, there is certainly nothing in the Act removing such prohibition. The Committee had no power to grant the license. A mandamui was refused, with coats. CHEISTOHUBCH. March 28. Tbe Hospital Board has voted LIOOO towards the expense of a lock hospital. The Selwyn County Council has decided to make a special vote to provide for hospital and charitable aid expenditure. The amount will be fixed at a special meeting. There was a fall of snow early this morning followed by heavy hail and rain. There are 14 charges against 15 prisoners for the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court, which will be opened on Monday. Besides the Bakaia murder case, there are two charges of indecent assault, two of forgery, one of attempted extortion, one of a breach of the Land Act, five stealing, and two of assault.
