(FSB PKEBS ASSOCIATION). WELLINGTON. December 23. In the Compensation Court Judge Richmond and two Assessors this morning gave judgment in a claim mado by Stewart and Ob. against the Corporation for L 94.000, for depuration of foreshore rights. The Court awarded the claimants LSOO worth of reclaimed land in satisfaction of the olaim, the claimants to pay each Assessor 50 guineas and 100 guineas costs of the Court. A Gazette extraordinary published this evening contains a proclamation proroguing Parliament until Thursday, February 2nd. During the year over 3500 civil suits and nearly 2000 criminal cases have been dealt with in the R.M. Court. ° The Defence Minister hae|to-day issued a ciroular to volunteer companies warning them not to incur liabilities on the strength of accruing oapllatlon allowance, as it is likely to be considerably reduced. All raußketry instructors also have received notice that their services are likely to be dispensed with. A fight took place to-night between W. Murphy and Jack Hall for the light weight championship of Auatrnlaaia. After a well-contested match the fight was awarded to Hall, on a foul in the sixth round. Murphy had much the worst of the encounter.

DUNEDIN. . Deoembor 23. At the Dock Trust meeting to-day, Mr Elder, ..who went Home to float the loan, gave in his report. He stated that he had made arrangements' to float the loan at par, when the Harbor Board's ciroular, opposing it, got into circulation. All arrangements had then to be broken off, and he had to start anew. He eventually euoeeded in plaoing the loan with a good firm, but the prioe was only 90.

OHRISTOHUROH. December 23. •At one o'olook this afternoon a fire broke out in Baynes Bros.'grain store, Manchester-street, which was destroyed, with the adjoining store occupied by Robinson Bros. The building belonged to Oreyke, an absentee. It was insured in the Union Office for LSOO. Baynes' machinery was insured for L3OO, and his stock for LIOO in the Colonial Office. Very little waß saved. Robinson's stook was uninsured. The fire began upstairs in Baynes* store. ..

' . . . AUCKLAND. December 23. The Retrenchment Committee of the Board of Education have submitted a report showing an estimated reduotioh in the Board's inoome for the current year of L 7678, whilst the reduotion of expenditure is estimated at L 4075. This will leave a deficiency of L 3603, which the Committee recommend should be made up by lightening the expenditure in small schools, reduoing the ecale of grants to Sohool Committees, and by other means. The report, however, was merely reoeived, and the Committee are to sit again.

BLENHEIM. December 24. Monday and Tuesday will be observed as general holidays. The Marlborough Racing Club will hold an extra meeting on Boxing Day.

GREYMOUTH. December 24. A bush fire occurred near Red Jack's, Grey Valley Road, yesterday, and destroyed eleven hundred sawn sleepers at Goran's sawmill, cut for the railway contractors. A lot of other timber was blbo destroyed. By great energy the machine and engine were removed out of danger. Numerous applications are being made for leases of ground along the West Coast beaohes, for the purpose of being worked by dredges, Btioh as Wellman'a or Ball's. Great hopes are entertained, if the dredges only come up to expectation. Several companies are now under way, but none are yet in active operation.
