WELLINGTON. October 28. Regulations for trout fishing in Marlborough, North Canterbury, South Canterbury, Southland, Geraldine, and Otago districts, along with regulations for fishing and netting in the Lake County (Otago) are gazetted to-night. Regulations under the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act, 1385, for the eleotion of members of boards by contributing local authorities, are gazetted tonight. Seoond-class Inspector Pardy, of the New Zealand police force, has been promoted to the first-class. Inspector-Major Minnett has resigned the appointment held by him as Instructor of Musketry to the New Zealand Volunteer force. The Ken Zealand waa medal has been issued to the following : Private Martin, Taranaki Militia; Constable Irwin, Armed Constabulary; Private Parsons, Taranaki Militia; Sub-Lieutenant Scott, Militia, Poverty Boy ; Private Finoharo, No. 3 Company Taranaki Military Settlers ; Constable Creech, No. 1 Division Armed Constabulary. Sir Julius Vogel will attend the Christchurch races, and leaves on the sth prox. in the Hinemoa with His Exeellency the Governor. The Government are calling for tenders for some weekly steam service each way between New Plymouth and Onehunga. At the Bankruptcy Court to-day Samuel Desforge, butcher, of Porurua and Pahautanui, who recently filed his schedule, waß sentenced to 14 days without hard labor, for neglecting to keep proper accounts, and his certificate was suspended for six months. A telegram from Otaki states that Honi Puke Te Ao, M.H.R., is dangerously ill, and is not expected to live through the night. October 29. Puke Te Ao, M.H.R. for the Western Maori District died at Otaki last evening. He had been ailing for some time, and was aged about 53 years. Henare Kaihawa, a relative of Tawhaio, and Geo. Browne, late Government agent at Auckland, are mentioned aB probable candidates for the vacant seat. DUNEDIN. October 28. The National Insurance Company of New Zealand has declared a dividend of ten per oent for the year. Government having refused to accept less than 2s 6d per day for prisoners, the Harbour Board has decided to employ free labor. Henry Percy Fisher waa committed for trial to-day on a charge of unlawfully escaping from custody. He was also committed on two charges of larceny. His behaviour in the dock was bold and defiant, CHRISTCHURCH. October 20. There is no doubt as to Nelson's indisposition. He was not out on the course this morning, but he is said to be recovering, and it iB almost a certainty he will run. AUCKLAND. Ootober 28. The body of the woman, found in the river near To Aroha, has been identified at an inquest on the body as that of Mrs Mc Hiver, wife of a mine manager. It is believed, that she met her death by accidentally falling into the river when watching the boat races, a fortnight ago. The excitement continues in Waikato, regarding the strange carnivorous monster at large in the district. Some volunteers offered to do sentry duty at the slaughter house, but a Belf-acting trap is preferred, to catch the animal alive. Subscriptions are being raised for Caffrey's defence among the seamen of the port. C. W. Langatone, a veterinary surgeon was arreßted at Te Awamutu, on a charge of forgery. GUEYMOUTH. October 29. The Union Company's Mawhera is ashore on the north beach, a little above the north mole. She took the tug at abont eight this morning, three hours before high tide, and waa on her way in when, by some mischance not yet known, she went ashore. The tug waa in the channel at the time, but it is supposed that the Mawhera was not, and, after she got aground the tow ropes broke. The weather was fine and the bar was quite smooth at the time. There is no danger to the passengers, there being no sea whatever. The Mawhera lies much nearer the north mole than the Wallaby did, NEW PLYMOUTH. Ootober 28. The Supreme Court session was opened this morning by Judge Ward, who waß suitably welcomed at the opening of the proceedings by the legal gentlemen present. NELSON. Ootober 29. A fatal accident occurred last night, when William Rowell, an old resident, while lying across the tramway in a state of intoxication, was run over by a 'bus and killed instantaneously. BLENHEIM. Ootober 28. The people of Havelock have started a subscription to Dr M'lntyro, in appreciation of his conduct in the late Timaru poisoning case. KUMARA. October 28. Giacouo Scarpa, a miner, was killed by a fall of earth in his olaira near Goldsborough, yesterday. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. INVERCARGILL. October 29. George Gordon, manager of the Bayswater estate, near Otautau, was found drowned In Jacob's River to-day.
