WAITAKI ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of tho Waitaki Road Board was hold this morning. Present —Messrs Barrio (Chairman), Allen, Sampter, Dennison, Wcstloke, Richmond, Wilson, Kid Hall. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr L. Popo forwarded stamps in payment of Mr Mewhinney'a rate*. The result of the poll at Pakenri was also sent in by that gentleman, which was previously announced, and Messrs Richmond and Dennison were declared members for the Weymouth subdivision, having obtained the highest number of Totes. The N«w Zealand and Australian Lind Company wrote urging the Board to repeat tho request to the Minister for Lands requiring tho control of the roid line behind the racc-course for purposes of access or exchange, and pointing out that former Governments have opened roads which were closed and that the position of this only requires to be properly understood to be similarly dealt with. It was resolved to send the correspondence to the Members of tho district, requesting them to give the matter their attention and, if possible, to have the Board's decision ratißad. Mr M. M'Kone applied for work as surfaceman. The application was referred to the member for the subdivision. Mr John Willetts complained of the state of the road leading to bis coal mine »t Papakaio, and applied to have the worst parts gravelled. The Board said a good deal of lafcor had been expended on the road, and it was resolved not to do anything to the road at present. Mr John Cagney applied to have part of the road to his SeaSeld property formed as It fa now in a very rough state and covered with water. The member for Weymouth Bobdivision supported tho application which he thought was necessary. _ It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Dennison, to call for tenders for forming 20 chains of the road, to be sent in at neat meeting. On the motion of Mr Horopter, seconded by Mr Westlake, the following ntea for the year 1883-4 were ordered to be written off, being in error Part No. 131, L 4 3« 4H; part No. 441, Is; >"• 244.2 a Id; No. 362, LI 9s 2d ; No. 359, Is 3d. The question of nnpaid rates was then brought np, and the Chairman pointed cut that if these rates were not collected not ooly the rates but the Government irbsidy upon them would be lost. It was proposed by Mr Westlake, and lecouded by Mr Dennison, That on the expiry of seven days all arrears for rates be soed for without further notice. It was decided that notice be sent to Messrs J. and S. Wilson to remove the thorns from tho road opposite their property. It was also decided to notify Mr A. BUgteish that the cuttings on the road to Jardioe's must be removed, and aho to give Mr M'Phee notice to grub the gorae froca the sume road-line, as it interfered with the cleaning of the ditch. Mr Westlake asked the Board to give Instructions for a catting on road near to his farm, which has become an absolute necessity. It was agreed to have an estimate made *nd a contract prepared. Accounts amounting to L6l 7s 91 were piwsed for payment, and the B >ard rose.
At tho close of the meeting Mr P. Aitchisoo waited oo the Board to request that as order might be made to have the fusees removed from the road line on the Berth side of his pre-emptive. The Chairman said tho matter would be CGtuidsrod next tnwting.
