(F£R PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. December 29.

A telegram has reached town stating that Booth's sawmill at Glairville is on fire, and that half a gale is blowing. Three dwelling-houses, an old flour mill, and a building (formerly Hooker and Stewart Brothers' timber mill) were burned yesterday. The insurances on the flour mill are Ll5O, one dwelling-house Ll5O, and another L 75 only. The latter was occupied. Mr Ballance leaves for Napier to-mor-row to attend the great native meeting at Hastings on 2ad January.

DUNEDIN. December 29. A man and woman, proceeding on board the Seagull at the wharf, fell_ overboard, and narrowly escaped drowning. They were rescued by two watchman. Seven seamen of the. Waitangi were sentenced to 14 days for embezzling cargo. The carpenter and sailmaker were discharged for lack of evidence.

AUCKLAND. December 29. The Waikatojiriystery is still unsolved. It is proposed to exhume the body of the supposed murdered man to find if he is identical with the missing man Dunbar. _ George T. Hill, Newton, and all his family, narrowly escaped death by poisoning, caused by eating corned tongue which proves to have been diseased, though externally it appeared, perfectly sound, but on examination seemed to be dangerous.

TIMARU December 29. News reached here this afternoon that the Cave Hotel, about 20 miles from Timaru, was totally destroyed by fire this morning, several of the occupants having a narrow escape. No further particulars are to hand, and the insurance is not yet known.

NAPIER. December 30. A man named Fitzgerald was killed yesterday at Havelock. The deceased was driving three horses in a dray loaded with gravel. He was seated oil the top of the load with the reins fastened to the shaft when the horaes suddenly bolted. The deceased jumped down, but fell on the shaft: and rolled on the ground, the wheel passing over him and killing him instantaneously.
