RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TH£S DAY. (Before H. W. Robinson., Esq., It.M.) Duncan M'Guinness, who did not appear, was charged with being drunk on Saturday night. Accused had been in custody until this morning, when he was liberated on bail. Hia Worship fined accused 103. William-Fitzsimmons was charged with being drunk and disturbing the audience at the Public Hall on Saturday night. Accused asked to be forgiven this time, promising not to appear again. His Worship said that such conduct could not be allowed, and fined accused 6s for' being drunk, and 10s for disturbing the audience at the Hall. A first offender, charged with being drunk," was discharged. Henry Matthey, who did not appear, was charged with being drunk, and was fined ss. William Howie, for a similar offence, was dealt with in the manner. Edward Poole and Margery Poole were, charged with that they did between the Ist December, 1884, and Ist June, 1885, being the father and stepmother of Edward Poole, an infant of tender years, and he being under the care and control of the defendants and unable to provide for himself, neglect and refuse to find and provide for him sufficient food, clothing, bedding, and other necessaries proper for, and requisite to, hia maintenance, whereby the said Edward Poole became sick, weak, and greatly emaciated.

Mr O'Meagher appeared for the accused, and asked for a remand on account of his having been subpoenaed to appear at the Supreme Court at Waimate. His "Worship granted a remand until Monday, 15th inst. Edward Poole was then charged under the. Destitute Childrens' Act, and, at the request of Inspector Thompson, remanded until Monday next. Alfred Lovegrove was charged with making an indecent assault uponCathleen Mary Canton on the Kartigi Beach on the Ist inst. Mr O'Meagher appeared for accused and asked that the case might be heard in the Oamaru Court, as it would be more convenient.
