PROSPECTUS OF THE WESTPORT COAL COMPANY (Limited), NEW ZEALAND. (To be Registered under the " Joint Stock Companies Act, 1S60.") CAPITAL ... £400,000 In 80,000 Shares'at £5 each, Of which 30,000 Shares will be taken by the present owners as part payment for the properties. 15,000 Shares are now offered in Isew Zealand, and 35,000 in Australia, which will be payable as follows, viz.— 5a on application; 5s on allotment; balance at intervals of not less than three months, and in amounts not exceeding 10s per Share. It is not anticipated that more than L2 10s per Share will'require to be called up. The present owners take their shares paid up to L2los each, and will be liable with other - Shareholders for the remaining L2 10s per Share. This Company has been formed for the purpose of acquiring and working on an extended basis the well-known coal-mining property at Westport, New Zealand, now owned by the Westport Colliery Company (Limited). That property consists of leases covering areas of over 4000 acres, all coalbearine, held direct from Government for a term of 99 years, with mines, railways, and other works thereon in active operation, and is one of the most magnificent properties in any of the Australasian colonies, whether as regards the quality of the coal, the extent and thickness of the seams, the economy of working, or the facilities for output and shipment. The development of the Westport Colliery Company's business, since starting work about 12 months ago, has been so rapid, and the demand for the coal has become so great, as to call for the expenditure of more capital than is at that Company's command, and an agreement has therefore been entered into to transfer the property, as a going concern, to this Company. It is proposed to expend additional capital as follows, viz. : On purchase of steam colliers... £BO,OOO In opening up other portions of the coalfields 20,000 Total £IOO,OOO This expenditure is expected to produce an annual output of 250,000 tons. The present annual consumption in New Zealand is about 500,000 tons, and published statistics show the consumption to be rapidly increasing. A provisional agreement has also been made to purchase, on advantageous terms; the property of the Greymouth-Wallsend Colliery Company (Limited), consisting of 1000 acres coal-bearing area, containing a seam 17ft thick of the well-known Greymouth gas coal, with the necessary shafts, machinery, and plant for working a large output. The property also contains valuable seams of fireclay and building-stone. The carrying out of this agreement will have the double advantage of giving this Company practical command of the only two fields, of true coal in New Zealand, and of acquiring a valuable property at a low price, viz., L 20.00 L 15.000 by 6000 shares aid up to L2 10s each, and LSOOO in cash. The two properties, comprising together over £OOO acres, upon which the owners have expended over LSO.OOO, together with railways, rolling-stock, machinery, plant, and appliances, and all current contracts, will thus be transferred to the Company for a total sum of L 104,000, of which L 75.000 will be payable in 30,000 shares paid-np to L2 10s per share. The whole scheme is therefore one of the most promising ever yet offered to the public, and, as such, the Provisional Directors have every confidence in recommending it to investors as presenting every inducement for the permanent and safe investment of capital. Copies of the Agreement* for purchase, together with detailed statement of particulars of the properties and the Memorandum and Articles of Association, can be seen, and Forms of Application and all other information desired, may be obtained from the Company's Brokers. GEORGE SUMPTER, Broker, Oamaru. WANTED Farmers to know that orders will be received for the BEST HARVESTERS ard BlNDEßS.—Cuirent Prices.—J, Chubch, Tyne-itreet.
